Meeting of the Socialist International Working Group on the World Trade Organisation, London

10 April 2001

At its meeting in London on April 10 2001, the SI Working Group on the World Trade Organisation continued in its examination of themes relating to international trade and its effect on the lives of much of the world's population.

The meeting, chaired by Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja of the Finnish Social Democratic Party, Chair of the Working Group, agreed to present at the next SI Council meeting in Lisbon in June, a draft resolution in connection with the next ministerial meeting of the WTO which will convene in Doha in November this year, encouraging efforts to reach agreement on the next WTO round of negotiations. The draft will also identify key issues that should be included in the agenda of these negotiations and call on all the relevant countries and groups of countries to prepare for the meeting, identifying positions and minimum elements to make possible an agreement in Doha.

The Chair will also present to the Council meeting in Lisbon, a report on the work of the group and the issues involved. List of participants
